Professor Md. Golam Samdani Fakir


Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir has been working as the Vice-Chancellor of Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) since May 16, 2013. His first tenure has been renewed for another four years after successful completion of first four years.  

Prior to this appointment he worked as Pro-Vice Chancellor and Director, Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) of BRAC University during August 2009 –May 2013. He was Visiting Professor of SIT Graduate Institute, Brattleboro, Vermont, USA from 2006 to 2009. He also worked as DirectorBRAC Training Division and Academic Chair for the Post Graduate Diploma Program in NGO Leadership and Management under the Global Partnership for NGO Studies, Education and Training from 1997 to 2006. He was one of the co-founders of Global Partnership. He played an instrumental role for establishing the Foundation for Learning and Teaching and Research (fLTR).  Prof. Fakir has been actively involved in designing and facilitating a short course, teaching for Active Learning (TAL) for the faculty members of both private and public universities.

Prof. Fakir had 25 years of professional experience in the field of NGO capacity development. However, for the last 20 years he has been concentrating and specializing in teaching, researching and facilitating faculty development courses.

Prof. Fakir was directly involved in the initial development process of BRAC University. He was one of the facilitators of BRAC University Initiative for Learning and Development (BUILD). A number of his research publications have been published in national and international journals.

In recognition of his contributions in education, he received Global Awards for excellence in education, leadership and teaching from World Education Congress, Mumbai, India on 29th June 2012. He again received another award as a Vice Chancellor from World Education Congress on 28th June, 2014. Bangladesh Organization for Learning and Development (BOLD) offered him a Lifetime Achievement Award on 26 August, 2016. He also received Atish Dipankar Gold Medal Award on 15 November, 2016 from Atish Dipankar Shriti Parishad.

Prof. Samdani Fakir has had a brilliant academic career. He graduated with Hon’s and Masters in Economics from the University of Dhaka. Subsequently he received his Ph.D. degree in Industrial Economics from Academia De Studii Ecomice, Bucharest, Romania in 1982.
